Dear Lucy,
You’re one already and I don’t know where the time went. It feels like Daddy and I just brought you home all wrapped up in pink and so little. Your first day home was perfection, we came home and took a family nap. There was very little fear or anxiety surrounding that day and I feel like that has played a huge roll in the type of person you’re becoming. You love to just go and explore, you don’t like to be held by people because that stops you from learning and taking in everything. Before you were born I was a very anxious person and now that you’re here I very rarely worry about things that are out of my control. There’s just something about you that calms me. Holding you just makes me feel whole and happy and I know daddy feels the same way. You smile with your entire body. You’re sweet and sassy. You have a very helpful nature to you. I know that as you grow I need to nurture your helpful nature, your individuality, and your strong mindedness. Me and daddy want so badly to help you grow up and be a strong person who is sound in her beliefs and knows what she wants. You make us better and we want to help make you better. You are everything I ever wanted and I thank God for trusting me to be your mama. It’s such a privilege and one I do not take lightly.
Things I never want to forget about your first year:
Your little pigtails, the way you crawl with a mission, how soft your little tummy is and how sweet your breath is.
Your toothy grin, your crazy curly hair, the way you love clapping and dancing and Bruno Mars, and the way you and daddy go back and forth in a language all of your own, consistent of “Lu&Da” and it makes perfect sense to you. The way you hug your dad around the neck, how you nurse like a chimp but cuddle in when your tired and ready to be held, and how, even in your sleep, you can find me or dad and cuddle in and you know that you’re totally safe. Oh how sweet this first year has been to all of us.
This new year brings with it so much opportunity for memories and lessons. All of which your dad and I can’t wait to experience with you. Keep belly laughing, keep smiling so hard your face shakes, and keep loving hard the way you do. We Love you more than you can ever imagine!
Happy Birthday to you, our sweet little Lu.
Love,
Daddy & Mama
